I Know What You Know

Hubby is on a night schedule right now for work. I expected him home on Sunday morning at 4 a.m. At 5:30 a.m. I woke up (well, my bladder woke me up) and no hubby. This isn't as scary as it used to be because he knows better than to call me in the middle of the night now and when I wake up and he's not there as expected I call him.

When I call he says he's at the hospital and that it isn't him who is injured.

Well thank God for that!

There was an officer involved shooting early Sunday morning. It was one of hubby's friends and coworkers. Some loser decided it would be a laugh to lead officers on a high speed pursuit, then when cornered to try to ram the officer.

Nice. Hubby didn't get home until after 9 a.m. That is a 15 hour shift. :( I hate those.

Clearly this idiot had no regard for anyone else. His actions led an officer to shoot his firearm and wound the moron who then took off at a run. He was arrested a little later and taken to the hospital.

This officer has a family and friends. Shooting someone is not as easy as they make it look in the movies. It involves trauma to the shooter and his family that you may not realize.

The details that I'm sharing here are as much as I know, however, because hubby won't share anything else with me. I learned what I know from the news on Sunday morning. Hubby says that the matter is under investigation and if he told me anything, and then was asked if he told anyone, he'd have to say yes. And then I'd be liable to answer questions.

Okay, fine. I get that. I hate not knowing the details but I get it.

The officer, hubby's friend, is okay. His wounds were minor. But it could just as easily have been my hubby who caught the action that night. Just as easily been him to draw his gun (which he still has not had to do in 8 years as a Trooper) and now be on administrative leave while the investigation takes place.

This is why they train. Our State Troopers are first class. Hubby's sergeant even called to check on us - including me - to see how we were doing. Sergeant wasn't scheduled to be on duty for Sunday night but went out anyway to work with his men and make sure everyone was okay. Hubby was due to be out all by himself so I'm glad there were other Troopers out with him last night.

This morning when he got home I asked how his night was and he said "boring."

I said...I'm glad! :) Boring means safe. Exciting means danger. Thankfully, their jobs are pretty much boring most of the time. It's that small percentage of time where the excitement makes their jobs dangerous and sometimes deadly.

Please keep the officer's family and coworkers in your prayers. He's an A-Class guy who did his job to protect us law abiding folks.

Morning Beauty

Hubby just e-mailed me some incredibly cute photos. Looks like they're all hanging out together in the back yard and enjoying the rare bit of sunshine. I'm really impressed that he figured out how to download these on his own (normally he makes me do it).

Happy doggies are the best-est.

What Really Matters

I could have lost my husband today.

Every night when I leave work I call to let him know I'm coming home. Since he's working days right now I call his cell (we get off at the same time so he's usually closer to his cell than our home phone).

He was supposed to pick up Trooper from daycare after he got off tonight so the first words out of my mouth were "did you pick up my boy?"

His response was that he had to call me back.

Mmm...k.

So I'm almost home (I have around a 45 minute commute home) and call him again to see if I should be making my way to the daycare to get my puppy boy. The answer was yes because hubby was booking someone into jail. The only details I got were that he was going to be at least another hour and he got to taze a guy.

Rigggghttt.

So another hour goes by and nothing. I call and nothing. It's three hours after his shift was supposed to end before he finally rolls in the driveway. Thank God!

His mother and I head out to the car because apparently we get to watch the event that caused his tardiness - he has a dash cam and microphone.

OMG.

Some sleazy druggy would NOT obey my husband's orders. They ended up struggling on the ground with hubby yelling at him ... it was truly like an episode of Cops...but with MY husband. The guy would not stop fighting.

People...if a cop tells you to do something...just do it. Don't argue. Don't complain. Don't whine that life isn't fair. Just DO IT! Because if you don't...you may get tazed...or worse. I don't care if you're as innocent as the Virgin Mary. Just freaking OBEY and get it sorted out later.

And damn it ... I much rather my husband come home than get shot by some A-hole. Because apparently he kept moving his hands in the area of hubby's gun belt. Too many scary things go through my head at that thought.

It's the first time hubby has used his tazer. I don't know how he knew it would be okay to use that instead of his gun. He never had a chance to pat the guy down. How did he know that the slimeball didn't have a gun or a knife?

I'm just thankful that he's safe and just a few hours late to come home. For once I had his dinner hot and waiting for him after he changed out of his uniform. I'm proud of him but I know why he doesn't tell me what goes on during his shifts. If I had to "know" these things I'd be a wreck.

Hubby SO gets a Fat Daddy Cupcake tonight (we're technically on a one a week rule...but he can break it tonight!).

Bad Troopers, No Donuts!

Some of you may not know, but my husband is a Washington State Trooper. I'm very proud of him and his career but sometimes it gives me heartburn.

When a Trooper is killed in the line of duty, it is the responsibility of fellow Troopers to inform his family (yeah, I know there are female Troopers. But in my life it's a He.). Two Troopers are dispatched to relay the unhappy news. One Trooper means injury. Seeing two Troopers in my driveway is never a good sign, and yet twice now I've been scared witless.

Hubby worked a day shift yesterday, starting at 6 a.m., scheduled to be off on 4 p.m. At 3:15 my dogs starting running around all excited like they do when daddy gets home. It was too early and I thought it was odd. I looked out the kitchen window and my stomach sank. I saw hubby's Sergeant. Hat in hand, he looked like he was waiting for another Trooper to walk up the drive.

At this point I got tunnel vision. I don't remember anything except the thought of getting to the door while a million things went through my mind...the first one being "Oh Sh*t!".

I threw the door open and there standing on my doorstep is my husband. I was SO ticked. Not because I was mad that he wasn't actually dead, mind you. But because this is the second time that I've been scared out of my mind by the appearance of Troopers. (The other time, there were two Trooper cars in my driveway when I wasn't expecting it...it was just hubby and another guy for lunch!)

I of course cursed and his sergeant started laughing and said, "See, I told you you should have called." Damn right he should have. I was so ticked off that he scared me so badly. Apparently there was something wrong with his car and his sarge had to drop him off.

I pray to God that there is never a day when I actually do find two Troopers on my doorstep. One would be bad enough, but two would kill me.

My Husband Kicks So Much Butt!

Sometimes my husband's "cop" attitude drives me nuts, but other times it comes in really really handy. I'm sitting on the couch and I have a perfect view of my neighbor's front yard. Tomorrow is recycling and garbage day and she took our her stuff about an hour ago (yes, I've sadly been sitting here that long!). A young kid walked by, leaned over and picked a bottle out of the recycle bin, and THREW it into her yard!

WTH!

Seriously...what the hell! Okay...yes, he's an immature kid. But it totally ticked me off. This poor little old lady lives by herself and is already paranoid about people doing things to her house. So I yell for hubby and he runs out (barefoot) and screams "HEY!" "YO!" and man can he yell in a scary, piss your pants, sort of way. I'm trying not to laugh as he gets the kids attention and makes him pick up the bottle and put it back in the bin.

I am laughing hysterically!!! Way to go Hubby!!! :)

Edited to Add: Did I mention that he was with his parental figure?!?!? What kind of pathetic parent lets her son do this?!?! Bad parent!
