Perception Shift

I think I've been a Trooper's wifei for too long now...when hubby says he'll be late because there's been a fatality, all I can think about is how it affects my evening. Kind of sad.

Someone just DIED and I'm stressed because I'll be home alone longer.

Hello?!? Priorities.

And it isn't like a drunk driver or anything in this case. It was kind of a sad one (it's hard to take every single one to heart - especially if self induced from alcohol or drugs).

I'm glad he comes home at all. If it has to be a little bit later than normal, that's just part of being a cop's wife.

Are you saying that self-induced or a result of drugs/alcohol is easier to take? Death is difficult no matter what, I cannot say what is easier and better to deal with for myself...no matter if substances are involved or not. Is a drunk driver's death easier to take than some business man's heart attack? Perhaps the businessman was a scumbag lowlife who cost people their livelihood for his own gain. Perhaps the drunk driver was a wonderful person who made one fatal decision under the blur of alcohol. Always variables in the equation is all I am saying.

Someone has to do it. What would life be like if we did not have the police? I know it must be tough for you, but thank goodness there are cops doing their job. Just hope he always comes home to you safe and sound.
Best wishes,
Anna

Anon - I don't ever mean that a drunk driver's death is not horrible, but we have to compartmentalize. And when a drunk driver CHOOSES to get behind the wheel they are asking for trouble. And when they cause someone else's death, someone innocent who did not drive drunk, then yes it's easier to feel less sad about a drunk's death.

Also, this particular death was not self induced or a result of drugs/alcohol as far as I know.

Thank you Anna!
